I've been cooking consistently for 3-4 years now. Before that, microwave meals were my specialty. I've started to get into cooking soups. I find that they are a great meal for busy nights - cook a big batch on Sunday and you have something to fall back to during busy week nights! I just recently moved to North Carolina so I'm enjoying the southern cuisine. I haven't ventured into cooking any of it myself yet!
My favorite things to cook
My favorite things to cook are pastas. I love to try different combinations of sauteed veggies and spices combined with a red sauce, pesto, or different cheeses. Easy and tasty. I also love to try anything new and try to cook light with lots of flavor.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Pork and sauerkraut on New Year's Day with mashed potatoes. Must be eaten for good luck the rest of the year! Also, my grandmother makes the best macaroni and cheese for any family get together. It is simple, but it is SO good. I recently asked her the recipe, and of course she's never written it down so she promised she would send it over email. I haven't seen it yet!
My cooking triumphs
All my cooking is a triumph! I really haven't tried anything too difficult yet. I'm just proud when I follow a recipe and it turns out tasting good.
My cooking tragedies
I tried to make a pumpkin soup. I collected all the ingredients throughout the grocery store and the last ingredient I couldn't quite find was canned pumpkin. Slightly important. I finally ask an employee and the only thing they could come up with was pumpkin pie filling. I had already spent quite a bit of time collecting all the other ingredients so I said, what the heck. Well, pumpkin pie filling combined with the fact that I had no blender made for a sweet pumpkin soup with onion and celery chunks. Yikes.
