(The following was shamelessly stolen from an email I received, but I can relate!)     Recently, I was diagnosed with A. A. A. D. D. - Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder. This is how it manifests itself: I decide to water my garden.   As I turn on the hose in the driveway, I loo MORE

About this Cook
I got my love of cooking, as well as my methods, from my Mamaw, a "lil of this and some of that" kind of cook, but always true to our Southern roots. I am 46 and was never fortunate enough to have kids, but I am blessed with wonderful family and at age 40 I was blessed to meet the love of my life. We were married a wonderful 13 months when he passed away. Since then, I became involved with an online grief support group. I met the best friends of my life and we ventured out to form our own group for widow support. This is a user driven set of groups that runs free and as sad as it can be when we must welcome a new member, it is my proudest achievement. We now have over 300 members and I have seen so much healing it makes my heart almost explode! If you have lost your love and would like support from those who "get it", or you feel you have wisdom to offer from your own experience, please feel free to check us out at: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/WidowIsland/
My favorite things to cook
Well let me just say, that when it counts I make it perfection, but on a daily basis, I like to remember one of my favorite newspaper cartoons about a grouchy old couple. The wife is standing, waving a spatula, and asks the husband "Which do you want for supper: speed, or accuracy?"
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving Dinner for 30 in our family means, unfortunately, many couldn't make the trip that year. We have it at my cousin's (we all bring our traditional dishes) and the pool table is covered and brimming with food, and the ping pong table is covered and set so we can all sit together even though one or two may be seated on a lawn chair. Gotta love family.
My cooking triumphs
MASTERING my Mamaw's Cornbread Dressing as well as my Tata's (also my grandmother) Boiled Custard (a thick, egg nog type treat)!
My cooking tragedies
The only kitchen tragedies that truly exist are the ones you ADMIT to; and I ain't admittin' NOTHIN'!

Mustard Vinaigrette
I made this yesterday because I "thought" I had all the ingredients so I plunged off into it. However, my changes due to ingredients on hand weren't huge. I had to use apple cider vinegar instead of white, and I was completely out of hot sauce except for some lethal habanero concoction I won't touch so I left that part out, lol. I plan to use it next time around. To me, the significant change I made was to increase the honey to 3 T., which still wasn't overly sweet, and to reduce the salt to 3/4 of a teaspoon and I truly thought that was plenty so I can't imagine 2 tsps. This is a very good basic dressing that I will continue to use.

Smoked Paprika Vinaigrette
This is an incredibly great recipe and it was a big hit here! I used spicy brown mustard instead of stone ground just due to what was on hand, and my only onion was the size of a softball and I didn't feel like cutting in to it, so I used a couple of green onions and some onion powder instead. Those changes were simply for my convenience at the time. However, I did reduce the salt to 1/4 tsp and felt it had plenty of salt. The recipe, as is, would get 5 stars otherwise. It's fabulous! It reminds me a LOT of the vinaigrette style bbq sauce from Salt Lick BBQ in Austin, TX. I'll make this again and again.

Best Tuna Casserole
I too, found this a bit dry. It looked dry when I mixed it up, so I added about 1/2 to 3/4 cup of milk and reduced the baking temp to375. It could still have been a bit more moist for my taste, so I think, if I use this again, I'll reduce the amount of noodles to about 10 ounces. I realize it will make less then, but there are only three of us so that would work fine.
