About this Cook
I grew up in a cooking household. Today I'm a working Mom with two teens - one at home and one away at college. Lately I've been trying lots of recipes for granola bars - something that ships well and is healthy enough to eat for breakfast.
My favorite things to cook
Baking - because it's not something I do every day - cookies, cakes, cobblers, muffins, and our favorite apricot scones.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Making Christmas cookies... also hosting big family holiday dinners. Another fun tradition is New Years' Eve when we make a meal on all appetizers - my kids' favorite dinner because anything goes!
My cooking triumphs
A few years ago I made beef tenderloin for 20 people. The roast cost $80 at the local farmers market and I was terrified of ruining it! It took longer to cook than expected, and dinner was late, but it tasted great and I found it's pretty difficult to wreck such a wonderful cut of beef.
My cooking tragedies
Mistakes happen when I rush. Once while making my favorite chocolate cake (Hershey's Perfectly Chocolate recipe) I forgot to add SUGAR! It didn't rise, started to turn black, and we won't even talk about how it tasted. The kids still tease me about that one.

Chicken Wild Rice Soup I
Expected more from this recipe, especially with all the great spices and veggies. Was hoping it would be similar to a wild rice soup by Panera. Will try again and this time use half white rice and half wild rice. Perhaps cooking the rice in the soup will thicken it without so much flour.

New England Clam Chowder I
This was a good base recipe, but it needs more flavor. I used turkey bacon instead of pork, and all of the clam juice plus chicken broth in place of the water. Since most canned clams are salty, I will eliminate the salt next time and add fresh parsley and/or dill. Needs celery too. I realized I needed to thicken it after adding the clams which created a problem because you can't boil the soup once the clams are added or they will become chewy. I suggest straining the clam juice and adding it to the soup with the other liquids. Thicken with flour before adding the clams at the end and heating through.

Apricot Cream Cheese Thumbprints
Butter + cream cheese + apricot ALWAYS = delicious! The dough was a little too sticky and the first batch didn't hold their shape, but after adding a little more flour they worked out perfect.
