Milk Braised Pork Loin

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2009
YUM! My roast was half the size of the one called for so I halved the recipe and there wasn't really enough sauce, so if you reduce the milk and other ingredients, only do so by maybe a quarter.

Roasted Garlic Lemon Broccoli

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2009
This had a good flavor and we loved the texture of roasted broccoli, but there was perhaps a little too much salt. I also parboiled the broccoli first to prevent the color and odor other reviewers complained of. I will make this again.

Southwestern Turkey Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2009
I also added about a cup of frozen corn and a can of drained black beans. The soup would probably be okay without them, but more like a chunky spicy tomato soup instead of a turkey soup with southwestern flavors. It was amazing with the additions, needed no further alteration. I made it for lunch today, and am going to make it for lunch tomorrow as well. It was quite spicy, but serve it younger diners with sour cream instead of cheese. My 8-year-old son liked it

Maple Caramel Bread Pudding

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2009
Oh man this is SO good! I cut the sugar so that I could serve this for breakfast, and I used a homemade butterscotch sauce instead of caramel, just enough to make a nice presentation. Very indulgent breakfast, probably a perfect dessert. We loved it and the best part was that the prep took me maybe 4 or 5 minutes. I actually had to keep waiting for the oven to preheat after I was done getting this ready. Quick prep, so easy and tasty. Note: I also used sugar-free syrup and it tasted and cooked wonderfully. Thank you!

Pumpkin Syrup

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2009
We didn't like this and actually ended up tossing it. I think it was the cranberry juice cocktail, which made it quite tangy when we were hoping for subtle sweetness and spice. I would love to try it again with apple juice though, I think that would make it much better.

Easy Polenta with Tomato Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2009
The base of this - the polenta - was great. I cut the cheese by almost half and it was still really cheesy and creamy, but you should really use a homemade sauce for the top. The canned stuff tastes like it came from a can on top of this. At the very least, stir canned sauce into some sauteed onion and add some herbs first. I added some grated parmesan to the top to make it look nicer.

Carol's Arroz Con Pollo

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2009
We liked this - good flavor and nice for a simple, weeknight meal. We had it with a salad with Zesty Salad Dressing from this site.

Acorn Squash Soup

This was good. It tastes a lot sweeter than I thought it would, which was a nice surprise. Looks really pretty too, nice creamy yellow color.

Pumpkin Butter I

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2009
This is amazing! I used half the sugar it asked for and added Splenda for the other half when it was done cooking. This is so tasty on plain toast and so much better for you than butter or high-sugar jelly or jam. Yum! I will make this every time I run out of it as long as I have pumpkin :)

Curry Pumpkin Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2009
I didn't bother with the seeds but this was amazing. I used 1 cup half & half and a half cup of skim milk, followed everything else exactly and it turned out perfectly rich and creamy and delicious. I will definitely make this again!

Fluffy Whole Wheat Biscuits

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2009
These biscuits are perfect. I make them 3 or 4 times a week for different breakfast dishes. The first time I made them, I was frustrated because the dough was WAY too soft and sticky to knead, let alone roll out. But my mom showed me how to use a very well-floured surface and well-floured hands and most importantly to move very quickly to knead this dough, then it rolls out easily (again with a well-floured pin). Now I have the recipe (which I haven't altered a bit) memorized and use it often. And they taste so good fresh out of the oven!

Play Ball Rice Bites

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2009
I thought these were ok and my mom liked them but my 8-year-old wouldn't eat more than two bites. The flavors are very interesting so if you like different foods with new flavors, I'd say give it a try. I also coated them with crushed corn flakes.

Crustless Spinach Quiche

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2009
This is of course really tasty, but it's also very high in fat. Quiche is usually high in fat (since it's mostly eggs and cheese), but I was looking for one with lots of veggies and no crust to lower the fat/calorie content. This one isn't that great as such, but does taste very good. I recommend replacing some of the cheese with sour cream or lower fat cream cheese to lighten it up a bit.

Truck-Stop Buttermilk Pancakes

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2009
Wonderful pancakes. I used half all-purpose and half whole wheat flour and they were still light and fluffy and yummy. I also made only 1/5 of the recipe and it was enough to feed my family of 4 (made 9 1/4-cup pancakes) along with a side of fruit and eggs.

Italian Sausage Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2009
Great soup! As written, it's more stew-like than soupy, and I ended up adding another can of broth like other reviewers mentioned. I also added an extra small can of tomatoes with chiles for some added spice that my family likes. Don't leave out the spinach - it makes what would be a good soup a great one.

Pumpkin Oatmeal

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2009
I used regular skim milk and brown sugar instead of honey, this was great and hearty enough for dinner. I love pumpkin and make everything I can with it - I would have never thought to do this though. Thank you!

Buttery Corn Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2009
I realized why this recipe is so popular, but only after I made it. It's loaded with butter! I needed something quick so I just grabbed this recipe and made it. Since I've never made corn bread from scratch before, I didn't know it isn't supposed to have this much butter. Most of the other ones I've looked at since have 2 Tbsps to 1/4 cup of fat in them. I'm going to try another one next time.

Cheesy Vegetable Chowder

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2009
I make this soup about once a month and we love it. I use frozen peas, corn, and (instead of green beans) mixed vegetables. I always add more water than stated (usually about 9 cups) and it turns out perfectly. Tonight I used real cheese (cheddar, mozzarella and provolone) instead of processed - I don't recommend it! It tastes just as good - maybe better - but the texture and look isn't as nice.

Raspberry Oat Bars

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2009
Great flavor, I've made them with raspberry and strawberry jams - both work well. The first time I made them, the dough seemed too dry so I added one egg white. The bars still came out a tiny bit crumbly (which is great if you're serving them at home, not so much if you're packing them for lunch or snacks to go), so the next time I added two egg whites, and that made them perfect for me.
