About this Cook
I have been married for 27 years to the best husband. I have 2 wonderful children, my daughter was just married in Jan. 2008 and my son is a Sophomore at Indiana University. My dog, Misty (my profile picture) is 12 years old, but acts like a young dog. She loves my banana bread. I work in the Athletic Dept. of our local school system. I love to cook and bake, love to try new recipes.
My favorite things to cook
Baking fresh bread, baking muffins and cookies. Like to try new recipes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My Grandma made the best applesauce cake with caramel icing. My other Grandma made wonderful cookies and the best potato candy.
My cooking triumphs
When I finally found a recipe that was close to my Grandma's caramel icing for applesauce cake. She was one of those cooks who didn't go by recipe to cook.
My cooking tragedies
Anything that sets off the smoke alarm in our house or camper...

Orange Cranberry Drops
Very good recipe! I doubled the recipe, used the juice and zest of one orange and no extract. I put the cranberries in the orange juice/zest and let them soak for about 15 mins. and added them with the egg mixture and then the flour mixture. I made them into dough balls and froze them so I can take out what I want, when I want some. I did a quick roll in sugar and baked for 11 mins.

Oatmeal Raisin Cookies IV
I finally found the perfect Oatmeal Raisin Cookie! I have been trying several recipes for years and this is it! The only change I made was to add an extra teaspoon of cinnamon. My family loves cinnamon. They were crispy around the edges and soft in the middle. I was able to mix the ingredients in my KitchenAid mixer. Thanks for a great recipe! **9/3/10, I wanted to add that you can freeze the dough into balls and freeze on a cookie sheet, drop into a sealable freezer bag and bake when you want . It is just as delicious this way. With just two of us, I make the recipe, freeze and bake a dozen at a time.**

Chewy Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies
Even though I made a few changes, the overall recipe is excellent. I followed a few of the suggestions; 335 degrees for 12 minutes - perfect, 1 1/2 cups flour, 1 tsp. baking soda and 1/2 tsp. salt. I put the oats in the food processor and blended them to a coarse flour texture and used milk chocolate chips. Refrigerate for a couple of hours and they do not spread. Made them yesterday and they are still like they were after they cooled. Not rock hard. Thanks for a great recipe.
