About this Cook
I am a 43 year old mother of 4, two of whom have "flown the coop" and are in college now. The other two at home (ages 13 and 12) are enjoying all the goodies now, and are not picky eaters, so they are easy to try new recipes out on. They are both athletes, so pretty hungry most of the time! (haha)
My favorite things to cook
I have always loved to bake, and even when I was a young teenager, my mother would ask me to make the deserts for special occasions..she was such a wonderful cook, but she swore that she couldnt bake and that my cakes were good, so I usually got "sweets duty" at my house.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My husb. is stuck on that old "green bean casserole". I swear he could eat it every day!! It is the one recipe that is always a sure thing on traditional holidays. I usually make pancakes on special occasion weekends as well.
My cooking triumphs
I have won "Grand Champion" and "Grand Champion reserve" in our county fair pie contests a few times, and also first place blue ribbons for various catagories. I like to try out new pies every year. The judges seem to really like peach pies, they often win, but I won the big prize with my caramel apple pie the last time out.
My cooking tragedies
I am embarrassed to admit that MORE THAN ONCE I have left something under the broiler and pulled out a black smokey mess...(Garlic bread, many times....) also I have walked away and left rice cooking and forgot all about it while doing laundry..it was a solid mass of crusty junk when I remembered to take it off the stove!! I blame my forgetful nature and multi tasking for these "errors"..haha

Seven Layer Taco Dip
My husband works at a hospital, and they often have "pot luck" type of lunches, as well as "parties" when people leave or doctors retire....I made this recipe for him for one of these, and his co workers practically licked the dish...I am now asked to bring this to every "food" related celebration, and in fact, I just made another big dish of it tonight for him to take in tomorrow...It is the most requested thing I have ever made!!
