About this Cook
I am a 38 yr old happily married mom of 5 who never learned how to cook, so I am learning via trial by fire:) Luckily for me, my hubby is a good cook and very patient:)
My favorite things to cook
I like to cook big meals that taste good:) Mostly meat and potatos, or something with rice or noodles, but still involving meat and potatos:) I also like to make desserts of any kind.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We're still working on them! These still involve a bigger list of things to learn how to do, rather than things I have successfully accomplished, but we're working on it! I can make a mean turkey or ham holiday meal, though! And I try to include the kids in the kitchen festivities as much as possible:) Their involvement is the most important tradition of all to me!
My cooking triumphs
Many of my triumphs were inspired by allrecipes! From these pages I have made many excellent meals and treats, from home made rolls and breads to meats of all kinds, and cookies or whatnot for desserts. Truly, though I may feel I am still learning, my family thinks I'm actually a good cook! who'd a knew??!!
My cooking tragedies
A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, I couldn't cook diddly squat, burning hockey puck hamburgers and ruining my husband's ability to enjoy anything with rosemary in it:P Really, if it wasn't french toast or spagetti, it was anybody's guess as to how edible it would be:P But thanks to the wonderful recipes and thoughful reviews found here, I can't remember the last meal time disaster. hurray!!!

Pumpkin Bread IV
I made this for the first time last winter, and it has become a family tradition! I couldn't even count how many loaves I've made, for family and friends, and as soon as its gone, the kiddos start asking for more! Moist, dense, flavorful, simply scrumptious! The only thing to note is, it does take a little longer to cook in my oven as well. Well, off to bake more of this goodness up:) TYTYTY Cheryl!!

High Temperature Eye-of-Round Roast
This was so excellent! My hubby n I were spoiled by working at a restaurant with great roast beef, and now we can make it at home! I used an herb rub, just a basic combination of season salt, pepper, garlic and onion powders, and a little italian seasoning mixed with veg oil kind of thing (a take on the 'herb rubbed sirloin tip roast' recipe from this site.) Also made sure to let roast come to room temp b4 cooking. Holy cow it was AWESOME! Turned into a perfect, moist, medium rare delicacy! A 6 lb roast was gone in an hour! This would get 10 stars if I could! TYTYTY Lyn for the recipe!

Herb Rubbed Sirloin Tip Roast
excellent!!! I halved the cayenne (for the kiddos) and used some italian seasoning instead of oregano/thyme (crushing italian seasoning in the palm of my hand before adding, as it releases fresher flavor)We also used veggie oil as hubby detests EVO. I let a 6.5# sirloin roast marinate for about 6 hours in the fridge. Added quartered potatoes, sliced onion and beef broth to pan, put roast on small rack in middle, and foil wrapped the whole thing. then roasted in 325 oven for 2.5 hrs (didn't let meat get fully to room temp b4 roasting, only sat out 30 mins) OMG it was so delicious! It made the best au jus as well! whole family devoured it, and it's rare for everyone to agree on anything! next day we sliced remaining meat thin and warmed up in au jus and it made the greatest sandwiches! tytyty for a great recipe, and tytyty for this allrecipes community for great reviews that let originally clueless cooks like me make masterpieces such as this!
