I tried this recipe once, and my frosting simply refused to form stiff peaks. I beat it for over 40 minutes (using a hand mixer). This is probably my fault--I must have poured in the sugar mixture too quickly. This recipe is fairly delicate...it's pretty (even if it wasn't stiff, but I don't know if it is worth the effort! Also, a very sweet frosting. I'm going to give it a try again. Will update if my results work out any better! UPDATE: Yeah, still didn't work out for me. I made sure to add the sugar mixture very slowly, made sure it boiled and was fully dissolved, and still I get nothing. I did add a dash of salt to the mixture, just to balance all of that sugar.
