About this Cook
I am a 30-something chick from St. Louis, MO. I have a degree in science and I love to experiment (get it) with new techniques. We love food in my family and enjoy variety.
My favorite things to cook
I love to pick the fresh veggies from my garden and somehow work them into the meal. I love asian, particularly vietnamese and thai. I even have lemongrass growing in the house. My family loves to try new things and we try to get as gourmet as possible.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My husband's family is Ukrainian, and they have a few Christmas traditions. We always have fish, borsht, and pierogies for our Christmas dinner. I have grown to love these foods.
My cooking triumphs
I attempted stuffed mushrooms without a recipe when I was early in my college years. It was a hit and my roommate asked me to make it often.
My cooking tragedies
I once tried to recreate V8. My mother fumed when she saw how many vegetables I had used in the blender without first cooking them. Another mishap occurred when I put a ton of garlic into the swedish meatballs I was making for my parents. They never let me live that one down!

Eggnog from Scratch
Both adults and kids loved this! Of course, I omitted the alcohol from the kid version. It was great on Christmas day and sooo much better than the store.

Easy Butternut Squash Ravioli
Great recipe! 1 large butternut squash yielded 2 cups and therefore I doubled the filling recipe. I did not use an egg yolk, but it did not matter. Added a little extra cayenne just to give it a slight kick. I was unable to purchase wonton wrappers and instead purchased a 16 oz package of egg roll wrappers. Cut into quarters and made triangle shaped ravioli. The doubled filling was perfect for the amount of wrappers I had. Used about 3/4 of a teaspoon of filling in each wrapper. The fresh snipped sage and fresh peppered parmesan were elegant.
