My favorite things to cook
I love any kind of Mexican food and I find myself cooking things with an Italian flavor a lot of the time, also. I'm pretty adventurous as far as trying new recipes goes....of course, convincing my 2 kids to try new things has sometimes been a struggle but they've been getting better.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My favorite cooking tradition is Christmas Eve....we turn off all the lights in the house except for the Christmas lights and eat a seafood dinner by candlelight, before driving around to see all the neighbors' holiday displays. It's a quiet, relaxing time for us to be together. When the kids were really small, dinner was fish sticks but thankfully, their tastes have matured over the years....last year we made seafood stuffed shells with vodka sauce.
My cooking triumphs
My coworkers are always asking me to make my famous deviled eggs for company lunches...and my brother has been known to drive 3 states, just so I'll make some for him!
My cooking tragedies
When I first started cooking, I was trying to make dried beef gravy the way my mom made it. She told me to mix cornstarch with milk to thicken the gravy. I didn't know you had to add that to the hot milk in the pan before it would thicken, so I kept adding more cornstarch to the cold milk. By the time I added it to the pan, it turned into concrete! LOL
