Deb's Cranchick Salad

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2009
This salad was very delicious. We added extra cranberries and put in some wonderful sweet red apple pieces. Every flavor was balanced out and the balsamic vinegar really made it pop. I would definately service this again.

Slow Cooker Mashed Potatoes

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2009
This particular recipe was fun to make and the smell was nice as it was cooking. I prepared this for Thanksgiving dinner. It probably wasn't something I'd describe as 'bursting with flavor' -- but my kids and husband enjoyed it well enough, and it was nice having the potatoes in the slow cooker as it gave me a little extra space to cook the rest of my meal on the stove.

Crab Snacks

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2009
I found this recipe while looking for something to do with a can of crab meat. I inspired a few changes since I didn't have everything on hand and made it on a smaller scale. I used a small can of white crab meat, mixed it with 1 tablespoon mayo, 2 tablespoons butter, 1 cup of shredded 'cheddar jack' cheese, a little parmesan cheese and mashed it together into a spread. I put a nice thick layer over a bagel half and sprinkled with the paprika. I broiled them in a toaster oven for about ten minutes until they started bubbling. They were delicious!!! Looking at my quantity, you could make 4-6 bagel halves, which is quite a lot of snack for a decent sized family. I'll definately make this again, the crab flavor was NOT lost in the ingredients. Yummy!!! I've also submitted a picture.

Meat Loaf Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2008
This was an excellent recipe for these colder months. I followed the recommendations of another user and doubled the ketchup and worchestershire sauce and with the egg -- I added it in with the cooked beef and onion as not to dirty another dish. I also used Pillsbury refridgerated pie crusts and pre-baked them ten minutes and then filled -- reducing the cooking time afterward to 20 minutes only. I did however cook my meal at 450 degrees instead of 350 to account for the shorter cook time and it worked out nicely. My husband really enjoyed this recipe and I think the only changes I would have made would be to add some salt and pepper to taste into the meat mixture. We will definately make this again.

Chicken Pot Pie I

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2008
This was the first time I'd ever made Chicken Pot Pie! I used chopped rotisserie chicken from the local grocer. A whole chicken did the trick. I also had those Pillsbury refrigerated rolled pie crusts. I had frozen corn and peas but not any carrots. I added 1 can of cream of chicken soup and half a can of cream of mushroom soup. Salt and Pepper and Thyme too, and it's pretty darn good! I'll make this again!

Roasted Pumpkin Seeds

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2008
My family tells me these were good. I set the seeds out overnight to dry, I used seasoning salt and butter and after they cooled slightly, my children gobbled up their portions. I had a nice big bowl of seeds left over and my husband stole them and ate them when I wasn't looking. He said they were great. Oh well - maybe next time.

Artichoke Salsa

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2008
I used a regular tomato instead of plum tomatoes, and I used dried basil instead of fresh. Three of my five children scarfed down this salsa even though we didn't have tortilla chips, but served with light wheat veggie flavored crackers. I thought it was just great and I'll definately make it again!

Cornish Game Hens with Garlic and Rosemary

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2008
I enjoyed this recipe. The cook time was a bit longer than the recipe stated, which wasn't a bother really because I always leave time for projects like this anyway. This was the first time I'd prepared Cornish Game Hens. The scent during cooking was very nice! I loved the garlic cloves that turned out afterward, those were an extra treat. My husband gave me a big thumbs up. We'll have this again.

These are very delicious cookies. Instead of rolling them in sugar, I just sprinkled a little over top right as soon as they came out of the oven.

Chickpea Salad II

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2007
I very much enjoyed this recipe, but like the others I also added the couscous and black pepper and I doubled up on the garlic and used twice as much fresh parmesan. After leaving it overnight in the fridge, I felt the couscous took out the necessary *zing* and before serving it I added another tablespoon of vinegar and olive oil.

Ham 'n' Brie Sandwiches

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2007
This recipe was very good! I used it to entertain a guest for lunch. It would go well with a glass of wine. I made one batch with brie (which was heavier) and one batch with camembert (seems that my guest and I both preferred the camembert) and didn't measure the ingrediants, but instead just used my eye as a measurement for the sauce mix. I used a nice tender and not too salty bone in ham from the deli. Very good!

Simple Garbanzos

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2007
This was a pretty good salad. I followed the recommendations, less oil, twice as much peas. I didn't have cayenne pepper seasoning so instead I used a Hot Mexican Chilli or something weird I got out of the spice aisle. Tastes healthy and good I think!

Salmon Spread I

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2007
I thought this was very good dip, but I wanted it for personal use and not for a party. It yeilded a lot more than I wanted to consume! I had to toss half of it since no one helped me eat it. I'll consider this for a party sometime though.

Real Hummus

I had a terrible time trying to make my own tahini for this, but otherwise it was very good. I blenderized and added two or three roasted red pepper slices for flavor and they added something really great :)

Supreme Strawberry Topping

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2007
Very good, but the directions were a pain. Instead, I cooked all the strawberries in a saucepan, added the right amount of sugar and vanilla, but also a teaspoon of lemon juice. Then I blended it until smooth. The kids LOVED it!

Diane's Colcannon

Reviewed: Mar. 19, 2007
This was excellent! I followed user recommendations and used a bag of pre-shredded coleslaw mix (had little carrot peices and little red cabbage) -- I added a couple extra slices of bacon. I made this dish two hours before it was served and put it in a heated carry pack to take with me to the Irish family dinner we had. It was a hit, a LOT OF COMPLIMENTS, and the leftovers taste great too!!! I'll definately make this again, next Irish dinner, or even just for fun in any other meal!

Herbed Mushrooms with White Wine

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2006
Excellent mushrooms! I used Belle mushrooms, I'm not sure what the difference between those and regular mushrooms are, but they looked good when I bought them. I also used white cooking wine instead of "dry white" as directed and a little more olive oil than ordered, just a little because I wasn't sure what was going to happen to those poor mushrooms without it. Turns out they lose a lot of their moisture into the pan and I probably didn't need to add any extra. I will definately make this again, it tasted and smelled great!!
