About this Cook
I'm in my 30's, and I love to cook. Baking is my specialty, but I enjoy cooking in general.
My favorite things to cook
Baked goods of many types; chocolate cake, cookies, pumpkin bread, apple pie... the list goes on and on.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I have a recipe from my paternal grandfather for something known in our family as Mocha Cake: it's a hot milk sponge layer cake with an amazing mocha buttercream frosting. I also use my great-grandmother's sugar cookie recipe frequently, and her squash/pumpkin pie at holiday time.
My cooking triumphs
The first year my husband (then fiancé) and I hosted Thanksgiving, we were supposed to have 8 people...and last minute (as in Thanksgiving morning) found out that the total was going to be 11, instead. We pulled it off!
My cooking tragedies
Trying to improvise some cocktail sauce for shrimp when we didn't have any in the house. We had no horseradish, so I tried using some wasabi (Japanese horseradish) powder instead. Let's just say that now I always make sure I have an extra bottle of cocktail sauce on hand!

Chocolate Mint Cookies I
Made these for the first time tonight. All I can say is, I will NEVER have buy another box of Thin Mints - these are even better! Made them almost exactly according to the recipe - just added 1/4 tsp. peppermint extract after the eggs, as a previous poster suggested.

Strawberry Spinach Salad III
I made a couple of changes: omitted the mustard (just forgot to put it in!), and cut the sugar in half! I also added cukes and mushrooms. Served with sirloin tips and crusty bread - really good!

G's Flank Steak Marinade
Very tasty - I'll use this again. Used it on a top round steak; looking forward to trying it out on sirloin tips.
