About this Cook
I didn't learn how to cook until I got to college, but that was only after I got really sick and tired of eating scrambled eggs, ramen noodles (the ones that come in a dried block shape), and spaghetti with sauce from a jar. I couldn't even make Jello properly! However, I started craving my mom's cooking/Filipino food in general, and there weren't any Filipino restaurants nearby. So I asked my mom for some of her recipes, and the rest was history. I love cooking when I have time, and I especially love cooking for other people. =)
My favorite things to cook
Lots of Filipino food! I learned from the best - my mom. I stick mainly to Asian cuisine, but I also love all seafood in general. And I make a mean potato salad.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Cooking traditions? My family has serious EATING traditions! We all love cooking, and I have lots of fond memories of rolling eggrolls with my mom and the rest of my family. But when we get together, all I know is that I will be eating and napping a lot.
My cooking triumphs
The first time I made chicken adobo properly was definitely a moment for me. And my first marble cheesecake. Mm-mm!
My cooking tragedies
One day I tried making kare kare, which is a Filipino dish made of ox tails in a peanut-buttery sauce. What I didn't know at the time was that the ox tails have to be cooked for a very long time (or in a pressure cooker) to make them tender. I nearly broke a tooth trying to eat one!

Baked Tofu Bites
Very, very tasty. I didn't have ketchup but had Jufran banana sauce (a condiment that looks like ketchup but is a little sweeter, found in Filipino groceries) so used that instead. I also ditched the liquid smoke. I used extra firm tofu and pressed the liquid out as others have suggested, for about 30 minutes. I also cut the tofu into cubes smaller than the 1/2". This was so good on top of my salad, and even better the next day. I'll definitely make this again.

Hot Turkey Salad Sandwiches
This was sooooooo yummy. I didn't have any celery on hand, so I peeled and diced a small apple instead. It added a nice crunch and sweetness. Otherwise, I followed the recipe and my boyfriend loved it so much that he ate two sandwiches!

Cocoa Rum Balls
These were awesome. Definitely better after a couple of days because I had a couple (okay, more than a couple) immediately after I made them and thought for a second that I just had a shot of rum. I took everyone's advice and put the vanilla wafers and the nuts (I used pecans) through the food processor first. So easy to make!
