I am an art school graduate and a newlywed. I have always loved to cook...it is an art form to me, as well as a great way to show someone you love them.
My favorite things to cook
My husband is a vegetarian, so I only cook vegetarian meals (handling raw meat grosses me out, so it works out well). I cook allot of whole wheat pasta and vegetables. I also love to cook Mediterranean food and my favorite spice is cumin. I don't have a huge sweet tooth, so I almost never make deserts.
My favorite family cooking traditions
When I was growing up, my mom made homemade sourdough bread, and whenever we left town she had to get someone to "feed" her starter so it wouldn't die (I didn't carry that tradition on). Other than that, she managed to have a delicious meal on the table every night...not because she had to, but because she enjoyed doing it. Without a doubt I aspire to be like her, and I cook dinner for my family about 4 times a week.
My cooking triumphs
I've learned that, in order to cut out the stress, I need to chop and measure everything before I even turn the stove on. The extra time this adds is worth it because it makes cooking an enjoyable and relaxing experience for me.
