I am a newlywed, and I love cooking for my hubby. I like to try new things, and sometimes I will spend days researching a recipe. I like to try to find "authenic" recipes. Cream of mushroom soup works for some things, but it doesn't belong in everything that calls for mushrooms or gravy! When a recipe turns out better than expected, it is one of the greatest feelings of accomplishment!
My favorite things to cook
Lasagna, chili, enchiladas, and anything with basil and garlic.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Growing up our birthday was made more special because everyone got to pick what they wanted Mom to make. She only cooked on Sundays, as she worked long hours at a job an hour away. She made the best food though. I love trying to re-create (or even improve a little?) the things she made.
My cooking triumphs
I recently started trying asian dishes, and the spring rolls and bulgoki turned out better than expected on the first try.
My cooking tragedies
My second try at the spring rolls was too salty (made the mistake of using up the last of the name-brand soy sauce that was way old) and the second try on the bulgoki I used too much habenero and it was overpowering (plus it brought tears to the eyes-dinner shouldn't be painful!)
