About this Cook
I truly love to cook. I feel that the time in preparation, planning then finally execution have an almost calming effect on me. I think cooking is one of my stress releases. I started learning how to cook when I was very young. Neither one of my parents cooked and we had a lot of take home food or appetizer type foods as meals. So, my parents both liked the fact that I was willing to try my hand at cooking. I think I tackled my first Thanksgiving dinner when I was in 6th or 7th grade and from then on I was hooked. I can't say that everything I have tried has come out well, since I never had any formal training a lot of experimenting has taken place. But I love it and love to come here for ideas and new things to try.
My favorite things to cook
Comfort food. Anything filling and fattening smothered in butter, cream sauce or cheese. That is why holiday cooking is my favorite. My family and I would be huge if we ate that way everyday.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Homemade biscuits! Thank you Grandmother...I miss you.
My cooking triumphs
No matter what I have done. Nothing trumps getting my 2 year old son to try and eat a meal successfully. Fortunately my 1 year old daughter doesn't share his finicky taste.
My cooking tragedies
Tuna salad with cucumbers. I ran out of celery and thought it might work. It didn't.

Minestrone Soup I
Great as is but prefer it made with kale and kidney beans instead of cabbage and cannellini beans. I look forward to making this soup in the fall every year.
