About this Cook
I love to cook and try all types of things. I will cook for anyone who wants to eat, since my family, husband of 27 years and 3 kids, get a little tired of all the experiments.
My favorite things to cook
I love to try all kinds of exotic, foreign cooking, with all kinds of ingredients. My specialty right now is Thai food, and I found the perfect little Asian store to pick up all the spices and vegetables. I also love to bake breads and make desserts.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We had the kids do a weekend project each month, where they had to pick a country, research it and then make a restaurant to serve food from that country. They were wonderful and we ate all kinds of things that the kids still remember. We also bake all kinds of cookies for Santa to eat on Christmas Eve.
My cooking triumphs
So many triumphs and so many failures! I guess the best was cooking meals for 500 people at Fundraising Dinners at the elementary school, and pulling it all off, after researching recipes for months! No one thought the food from Africa would be a sell out with elementary school kids - but it was!
My cooking tragedies
Lots of mornings waking up to the wonderful smell of fresh baked bread, only to find out that I forgot to put in the yeast! Cooking a huge tray of Vegetarian Mousaka for hours, and then dropping it on the way to the table.

Corn Spoon Bread
I brought this to a potluck and while sitting at the table a murmur started around the room. "Who made the corn?" When people found out I made it, lots of people requested the recipe for Thanksgiving. I made the recipe as written, but doubled it, and added 1 teaspoon of vanilla and used 1 stick of butter. I cooked it in the crockpot for 4 hours, then put it in the oven at 350 for about half an hour to brown the top.

California Roll Salad
This is one of my favorite salads. It is so easy, different and tasty. I use the wasabi paste in a tube from the oriental food aisle or sometimes by the fresh salad section. I also add some sugared ginger sprinkled on top, and some grated ginger in the dressing. Sushi is all about the ginger for me! I usually don't mix in the lettuce, but put the salad on a bed of lettuce for people to take if they want. I also tried adding the sushi seaweed sheets chopped up and mixed in- did not like it at all.

Pink Ladies
This was a fun, different recipe. I made it for my husband to bring to work on halloween when he dressed up as a Grease "Pink Lady." I only put the 2 Tablespoons of cherry juice in the frosting. Interestingly kids said it was very cherry-y, but most adults just got a hint of cherry. They were very pretty and not hard to make. A little goes a long way.
