About this Cook
Young mom living in Tokyo, Japan. Brought my Cuisinart oven and trying to make as many recipes from Allrecipes.com at home. So far so good. I especially love baking cakes, cookies and pies. Will try to put Japanese recipes up because theres not too many good ones here. I do have a blog with my husband about Japan and cooking. www.tune-in-tokyo.com
My favorite things to cook
I really enjoy making Japanese Food. My mentor was definitely my mother but nothing comes close to her cookin! I like relatively easy baking recipes because ingredients are not so readily available here in Japan.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Hotpot, sukiyaki, yakiniku....lots and lots of family and friends around the table eating together.
My cooking triumphs
baking grandma ople apple pie recipe in Japan and it turned out sooooo good!

Spanish Rice II
I'm sure it was my fault that I used Japanese rice because it turned out really mushy. But the flavour was good.

Banana Chocolate Chip Cake
I live in japan and don't really have access to alot of easily accessible baking goods like I did back when I was home in Canada so when I found this recipe, I had all the ingredients on hand except the choco chips but desperately needed to use my two ripe bananas. One ingredient that I took with me was good ol baking powder but didn't think about bringing soda thinking they would have some here but boy was I wrong. So finding a recipe with baking powder was also a mission. You also may not know this but we don't have ovens here, none of the apartments or houses come with one , it's like a luxury here so I rely on my Oster oven. I was pretty worried about using the baking powder since everyone was posting about using soda instead but I had faith in this recipe. I made it with little exceptions besides adding some vanilla and a scoop of peanut butter since I didn't have any choco chips. Baked it in a small round cake pan I think it's around 8 inches and it turned out pretty good! I would probably give it a 5star when I make it next time with choco chips and more bananas! Great recipe though!

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie
These cookies are soo yummy! Mine always turned out pretty PLUMP so I figured out the reason why....I wasnt melting the butter! I've never made cookies where you had to melt the butter so I thought it was a miss-print...duh. Even though I left the butter at room temperature, they still turned out awesome!! I will try the melting method and I'm sure they'll be nice and flat and chewy!!
