Learning to cook was definately not something that came easily to me. Growing up my parents never really spent a lot of time in the kitchen so once I got to college it was up to me to figure things out (otherwise it was gonna be take-out 24/7 for the next four years!) I had my fair share of kitchen traumas and terrible dishes, but I never stopped practicing. Now, I can honestly say that I am well on my way to becoming a great cook. I spend hours on end looking up new recipes and watching my favorite cooking shows on TV. I pour over magazines and am constantly learning new things! I love to try out new recipes on my picky boyfriend (he's always brutally honest).
My favorite things to cook
Mexican food and Southern dishes - I love to season things up and tweak recipes to fit my spicy tastes! I love anything with big bold flavors. I really enjoy trying out new recipes and flavor combinations!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My grandmother is from Lousiana so I always love being in the kitchen when she is cooking something - she makes the best cheesy grits and gumbo.
I have also inherited Thanksgiving dinner. My first year was a success despite how nervous I was to take over for my Grandma and Aunt (they are really wonderful cooks!) Everything turned out great though and everyone is already excited to see what I'll do this year.
My own traditions include Taco Tuesdays with the fam and weekend Snack-a-thons when all of us girls try out new recipes on the guys during game time.
My cooking triumphs
People want my food!
My cooking tragedies
I've blown up blenders, lit the microwave on fire, and burnt many...many dishes. When I first started cooking it was pretty rough.
