About this Cook
I've been steadily cooking and baking...oh, since I was 14/15 years old. My high school was a vocational school, and of course, I took Food Service. I am HAPPILY married 11+ years, a mother to 4 beautiful children (3 surviving)....and I will only be 30 on 12/03/2008. I'm a small town gal who is proud to "cling to her guns and to her religion". I am infatuated with the Tudor dynasty; some people may think of me as a Renassaince[Faire]nerd. I love to perform, mostly in song. God has blessed me in more ways than I will ever know, and I owe my life to Him. One of the most important and treasured gifts is to be able to cook well and to enjoy it.
My favorite things to cook
Why isn't there more options available in the Food Interests section for the Cook's Profile??? I can't specify what I like to cook....I don't cook anything I don't eat or don't want to eat. Puerto Rican/American/Italian cooking and baking are the basics in my household. I just wish I had more time to REALLY explore other cultures.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Making pasteles during Thanksgiving/Christmas holiday. For any other boricuas out there.....you know what I mean. It was ALWAYS a time to have lots of family members together to make up a "batch".

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople
OH MY!!! That's all I have to say! (Well, not really). The sauce smelled WONDERFUL as it was cooking, and tasted even better. I would just eat the sauce if I could....truly what makes the pie. Now, I have read(from several reviews) of adding cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla to the sauce....of course I did so as well, but I truly believe that's all due to preference of what an apple pie should have. Either way, this is definetely an award-winning recipe. Thank you Grandma Ople and MOSHASMAMA for sharing such a wonderful recipe!

Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread
Great recipe...perfect soft, cakey texture that is preferred in the northeastern part of the country. The buttermilk also adds to the taste, but I love buttermilk so I think I am just being partial.
