Grandpere dans le Sirop

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2009
not so bad. It did come out way too doughy and white on top which was not appealing at all. I put it in the oven uncovered for a few minutes and it made all the difference! Nice and golden, it stuck hard to the pan though. They did enjoy it after I broiled it, so I would suggest broiling the top b4 serving.

Slow Cooker Vegetable Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2009
I used italian seasoning instead of oregano, as I did not have any. It's good but... The kids did not enjoy it too much though, because it may have been a bit sour from the tomatoes. Nice and practical soup. I did not add the veggies in the end, just added extra carrots and celery in the beginning, because I was going to be out all day. I will try no tomatoes, and chicken broth instead of beef next time.

Melt-In-Your-Mouth Meat Loaf

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2009
so good and easy and practical. Played around with the spices a bit due to what I had on hand. Eyeballed everything, used only one egg, and omitted glaze alltogether cuz I wasn't gonna be home. I put the slow cooker on high, and 4 hours later it was cooked to perfection. Delicious!

Chunky Potato Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2009
Wow that was awesome! I did not measure anything. I added extra of everything. I didn't have butter so I used vergetable oil. I was afraid It would taste oily, so I added about1/4 cup sour cream to compensate for the absence of buttery flavor. I also dodn't have suisse cheese, so I added mozza-cheddar cheese. The kids absolutely looooved it, and so did I! Thank so much for that fabulous, delicious and easy recipe!

Mexican Lasagna

Reviewed: Sep. 24, 2009
Followed exactly down to the corn tortillas, only I used chredded cheddar cheese instead due to what I had on hand. The taste is great, but honestly, I didn't like the corn tortillas in this much, and neither did my kids. They were too mushy for us. I will try again with flour tortillas. I think It would be much more consistent as a texture. Thanks for sharing!

Sweet and Sour Meatballs II

Reviewed: Sep. 13, 2009
This made a lot, and it was a bit hard to fit all of them in my large skillet, let alone stir them! However, using tongs to turn them worked pretty well. I used about half the amount of sugar and it still came out way too sweet for our taste. The flavours were fabulous, and we all loved this over pasta, but I would decrease the sweetness some more next time. Thanks for sharing the recipe, it's a keeper after very little tweaking to our taste!

Burger or Hot Dog Buns

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2009
I made this twice in the past two days. The first time, I forgot about the milk mixture for a second and it boiled over! I still used it. Let the dough proof in an oiled bowl for a few hours, covered in a warm place. I was worried, because I could still see little specks of yeast in the dough. Didn't rise super high. I then shaped into balls and proofed again until it rose a bit more then baked. They were heavenly!!! I served them with tuna burgers from this site. Soooo fluffy, and soo delicious! The second time, I kept an eye on the milk and did the rest exactly the same as the first time. Still see specks of yeast, did not bake yet, but can tell they will be just fine, and as delicious as yesterday. I will try to proof the yeast in the milk mixture next time before adding the flour, even though after baking no more trace of yeast. Perfect buns!!!!!(PS: ONE PACKAGE OF YEAST= 2 1/2 TSP ;) )LOVE THEM!!!!

Spicy Tomato Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2009
I used some ginger and garlic separately as I didnt have ginger garlic paste. I also used regular chili powder. I didn't have a can of whole tomatoes, so I crushed them with a hand blender. Worked perfect. My sister came over for dinner, and even though she doesn't usually like soups, she looved this one and even asked for the recipe! My kids and I loved it too. Lovely flavours, thanks for sharing!

Tasty Tuna Burgers

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2009
These are absolutely delicious! I used chili powder instead of sauce, because that's what Ii had on hand. Used much less of it though. Afer cooling in the fridge for many hours, they were still very delicate and hard to handle, so do NOT flip more than once! I served them with homemade burger buns(burger or hotdog buns from this site),some tartar sauce, and a leaf of lettuce. Heavenly!! Next time, I'll try to find a way to make these less fragile, but taste the same. Thanks so much!

Kheer (Rice Pudding)

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2009
I had to simmer at least 30-40 mins extra for it to thicken a bit. I followed the rest exactly, except for omitting the raisins due to personal preference. My kids loved it! The texture is different from what you get with long grain or arborio rice. Less creamy or fluffy. However, the fact that my kids asked for seconds and thirds means that this recipe deserves a FIVE star in my book! Very easy, thanks for sharing!

Rick's Special Buttercream Frosting

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2009
I used half butter and half shortening. Came out absolutely perfect! Sets up nicely on the cake and cupcakes. Perfect for piping decorations, including roses! I usually use the wedding cake icing from this site, which is very comparable to this one in taste and texture. Love them both! Thanks so much for this perfect recipe!

French Buttercream Frosting

Reviewed: Aug. 4, 2009
This is a very light fluffy frosting. Also turned out very runny, where I had to add lots of icing sugar to make it a bit more stiff. Good for basic filling and covering cake, but not good for decorations :(. Didn't add butter extract, and was buttery enough as is. If the flour/cream mixture comes out doughy, just add milk or cream a bit at a time mixing well until creamy frosting consistency. Not a bad frosting, tasted great, just not so good on consistency. To avoid floury taste, make sure you "cook" the cream/flour mixture in the microwave. In other words, make sure it's in the microwave long enough to simmer a little. Thanks!

Plastic Chocolate

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2009
I think this is a great recipe. Soo easy to make. However, after two days, it was still a bit too soft. Don't know if it was maybe because of the warm weather here. Sooooo messy to work with that way. I made roses to decorate a cake, but had to refrigereate every half hour to an hour so it can be workable. I made all the little balls for the roses first, then refrigerated them before shaping. Maybe next time, I'll add less corn syrup, might work better. thanks!

Frozen Mocha Marbled Loaf

Reviewed: Aug. 2, 2009
Wow this was so delicious! I had made this in the beginning of summer, for Sunday dinner at my parents, but left it in their freezer for another week, because it hadn't hardened after 24 hours. Long story short, things kept happening, and we were only able to finally get to it about TWO MONTHS later!! It was wonderful. I had some leftovers that I kept at home without the cookie crumbs, and that was delicious as is frozen like ice cream. And today, about three months later, my parents still have a bit left in the freezer, which was still perfectly good! Yummmm!

Quick and Almost-Professional Buttercream Icing

Reviewed: Aug. 2, 2009
very good icing. Add a bit of sifted cocoa, and you have chocolate icing! A bit too soft for piping roses, but can decrease amount of liquid, or add more sugar to make it stiffer, and that would work great. Very easy to make, and great recipe. Thanks for sharing!

Irresistible Irish Soda Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 24, 2009
I don't know what irish soda bread is supposed to be like, but this recipe was really easy and delicious. I decreased the amount of sugar a lot, because I wanted it more savory. I also baked it as a big round on a parchmint paper lined cookie sheet. Delicious, just a bit crumbly.
