About this Cook
Hello! I am a cooking enthusiast who is tryint to learn different recipes and technique. I am vegetarian, but I do cook meat for my husband who is a meat-lover. I am particularly interested in "ethnic" cuisine such as Indian, Middle-Eastern. My husband is from Slovakia so I love baking all the goodies from Czechoslovakia, Poland and Hungary (Buchty, Kolach, etc.) Besides cooking, I love to dance (Modern and Ballet).
My favorite things to cook
Any types of bread, cakes and cookies, Soups. And my all time favorite dish is grilled or roasted vegetables! My favorite ingridient is OLIVE OIL (one from Croatia is the best!)
My favorite family cooking traditions
Brinzove Halusky. This is basically a Slovak version of potato gnocchi, mixed with salty cow or sheep cheese which is called Brindza, topped with fried bacon (which I skip).
My cooking triumphs
Pies! I have been practicing it for a while and now I bring my homebaked pies to a potluck party and every one devours it.
My cooking tragedies
Well, not really a tragedy but I was a vegan for a while in the past and it was very hard to please guests sometimes with my vegan cooking because their palate was so different from mine and whatever I cooked did not come out tasty to them...now that I eat eggs and dairy, it is much easier.

Spinach Rice Salad
Great salad! Although the recipe suggests adding the spinach and bacon right before serving, I mix everything in advance as a make-ahead dinner and it comes out great. I think I would like it this way better because spinach blends in better with the rest of the salad. I also use home-made dressing, with olive oil, vinegar, salt, sugar, and pepper.

Thai Cucumber Soup
This was one of few recipies which I could not imagine how the dish would come out until I actually make it...this is a very good sour-spicy soup. Even though I made it only with cucumbers following the recipe, I think I can add other vegetables, like mushrooms and carrots. I will make this again!

Raw Hummus
Believe me, this is just like (or even better than) the regular humman from cooked chickpeas. Plus all the goodies from raw ingredients!
