About this Cook
I learnt to cook when I was tiny, watching my parents and trying to help out. I was the family omelette maker by the time I was 11. Have loved it ever since and I love to try out and learn new things. Cooking, for me, is a way of showing love and nurturing those you care for.
My favorite things to cook
Good, hearty food like stews, soups and casseroles. The kind you eat when it's raining so hard you can't hear yourself think. Love to make finger foods and anything that tastes great or makes people ask for the recipe.
My favorite family cooking traditions
On Fat Tuesday (Shrove Tuesday in Britain) we always have pancakes, crepe style. All we put on them is sugar and lemon juice. My Dad taught me how to flip them perfectly. Look Ma! No Spatula!
My cooking triumphs
The first time I made Chicken Cordon Bleu it was perfect and I was so proud of myself, I was not expecting that! Being able to make 'Southern' food that is as good as some southern cooks.
My cooking tragedies
A chicken casserole that tasted revolting, still can't make Beef Wellington even though I have the family recipe. Can't find the time to make Sushi and I love Sushi. Oh, and everytime I make broccoli casserole something goes horribly wrong...or maybe I just don't like broccoli casserole.

Cream of Mushroom and Soy Sauce Pork Chops
I made these when my husband came back from a deployment and we both thought they were incredible. They are very easy to make and literally fall apart when you start to eat them. The sugar and saltiness of the soy sauce make a nice mix. I didn't cook mine in a slow cooker, I just browned the chops and then threw it all in a baking dish and baked them for as long as I could stand. Excellent with rice!

Mom's Country Gravy
This was great. I scaled the recipe down because it was just for two people but it still made enough for us to use twice. I also changed the oil to butter. I just figured it would have a nicer flavor. Some reviewers suggested that you should use bacon or sausage grease and I agree...if you are using it for a breakfast or biscuit topping. We had ours with country fried steak and honestly I don't think the grease would have made any difference to how good it tasted with the steak. Either way, this is a good gravy, it passed my husband and he is horribly finicky so it HAS to be good.

Dried Beef Cheese Ball
I have been making this for our Christmas Eve Party for about ten years and it is always a massive hit. I cannot believe someone rated this as awful! I can only say that they must have really screwed it up, which seems impossible. This recipe, or one very close to it since we always add a little garlic powder, was so popular with my sister in Britain that we have to mail her care packages of dried beef so she can make it back home.
