About this Cook
I am 26 years old. I've been married since February 10, 2007. My husband is the most important person in my life. I love him with all my heart and he spoils me rotten!!! :-) I'm from a family of 11. 7 brothers and 1 sister. I have a passion for cooking/baking! I do catering and cake decorating out of my home. I also enjoy reading, traveling and shopping!
My favorite things to cook
Well...I like to cook most anything! But I'll choose a few favorites: Pumpkin Cheescake, Homemade bread w/ fresh ground flour, Lasagna, Italian Beef Soup, Honey/Dill Carrots, Fluffy Biscuits...and Marionberry Pie!
My favorite family cooking traditions
For Thanksgiving and Christmas breakfast we almost always make a Baked Omelet and Sour Cream Coffeecake. The only other traditions I can think of are: We make 99 percent of our meals from scratch. We couldn't live without our homemade, light/fluffy, fresh ground, whole wheat bread. We have a garden and do as much canning as we can
My cooking triumphs
Probably my number 1 cooking triumph is my Whole Wheat Bread. When people taste it, they can't believe it's 100% whole wheat. We grind our own grain and that is what makes the difference in texture, density and weight. Other than that, I guess I would say that my custom cakes have been a success. Most people think my decorated cakes are homemade. But I've learned a few tricks to making cake mixes really yummy! I also came up with a buttercream frosting recipe that doesn't have a shortening taste.
My cooking tragedies
I made a from scratch Angel Food cake one time. I did everything the recipe said, but when I took it out of the oven it didn't look that great. Then while it was cooling propped upside down, it fell out of the pan. The guys who ate it thought it tasted great! For awhile I had problems making yeast breads (other than my whole wheat bread). It seems I was always doing something too hot or too cold and wrecking the yeast. Finally I got it right and am enjoying lots of yeast bread recipes!

Old Fashioned Paradise Pumpkin Pie
I made the recipe exactly as it says but doubled the streusel, because I wanted a generous crunchy topping. It turned out perfect! There is just the right balance of pumpkin, cheesecake and streusel. The baking time was right on and I had no problem with the layers mixing together. My husband liked the fact that the pie wasn't overly sweet. I served the pie with fresh whipped cream. Yum!

J.P.'s Big Daddy Biscuits
This recipe is wonderful! I made very few changes. First, I prefer the taste of butter in biscuits and I think it gives more flavor (some people commented that their results were bland). Second, I didn't need to use quite a full cup of milk to get the right consistency. Third, I wanted an herbed biscuit to go with dinner so I added 1 1/2 teaspoons of dill weed, 1 large clove of garlic (minced), 1/4 teaspoon fresh ground pepper and 1/2 cup grated Romano cheese. YUM, YUM, YUM! All 10 people at dinner raved about the results. I was very pleased! :-) I ended up refrigerating the dough for a few hours before I needed it. The biscuits were light, fluffy and flaky. Perfect!

Butterscotch Deluxe Pie
Absolutely wonderful! I followed the recipe exactly and it turned out perfect. Everyone loved the combination of the oatmeal crust with the toffee-like filling. I think I shall call this recipe Toffee Cream Pie. Too many people associate the "Butterscotch" flavor with Jell-O pudding. This recipe tastes nothing like that!
