I'm kind of serious and down to earth, but love to try new things. I'm always planning out shopping trips around my recipes that I want to make. I have a very small house with a big sized yard and wonderful deck. I share this with my husband and our 2 dogs. It's great for summer entertaining.
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking my sweet and sour meetballs and my mom's kaluski. I also love making my famous apply pie and rum cakes. I also love making my own red pasta sauce and my husband loves my white sauce, it's just a little more tricky to make.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother always made a tomato base beef brisket at Christmas along with her Kaluski for Christmas Eve. I remember, as a child, waking up in the wee hours of the morning to get gifts and there my mom would be, chopping the veggies for the brisket. This brisket takes a long time to cook, as I've learned from experiance, but when it's done it is so tender and juicy.
My cooking triumphs
My number one triumph still remains making my mom's beef brisket one year for Christmas. It turned out exactly the same as she had always done. It just took a really long time to cook but no one minded.
My cooking tragedies
I have had few. My earliest was when I was about 10 and we were making blt's for dinner. My job was to cook the bacon. Well, lets just say that night we had a burnt offering that my brother's never let me live down to this day. I also made a strawberry ruhbarb pie for a family function at my Grandmothers. Let's just say not enough sugar was used because of the tangy frest ruhbarb and there were lumps of sugar throughout the pie that didn't disolve. I haven't had the nerve to make another one since then.
