About this Cook
I'm a wife and new mother, and trying to master all the elements of being a domestic engineer, including cooking.
My favorite things to cook
I love Laura's Quick Slow Cooker Chili. I feel like I solved the puzzle of the meaning of life every time I make it.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Japanese food passed down from my grandma (gyoza, sukiyaki, etc.) and my other grandma's potato salad (a North Dakota requirement)
My cooking triumphs
I recently made homemade calzones, complete with homemade pizza dough. They were excellent! It was the first time I had ever used yeast (making breads intimidated me), but it turned out so well, I'm really looking forward to making homemade bread!
My cooking tragedies
I almost burned the apartment down while trying to broil beef for fajitas. So far I'm 0-2 for broiling. I also found out (too late) that my oven door must be open to broil...it explains a lot. Also, don't try to make crab cakes with imitation crab.

Cinnamon Apple Syrup
This was delicious. I made it according to the recipe and I don't think I would change anything. I was a little dubious that it only needed 2T of water, but it worked!

Linguine Pasta with Shrimp and Tomatoes
Delicious! I made this per the instructions plus the additional instructions made in the comments by the original author (adding cream and basil). The only thing I would do differently is use a lighter cream (I don't know what possessed me to use heavy whipping cream, but I did), and maybe less of it. I think I also simmered it a bit longer to get it to reduce a little more...maybe 45 minutes.

Easy Shake and Bake Chicken
I made this as the recipe stated with the addition of maybe 1/2 teaspoon of cajun seasoning. Still found it a little bland. Good base recipe though.
