About this Cook
I cook on a ship in the military, for 100 people. It gets to be a little daunting, so I really like to cook at home for family and friends. Sometimes, though, I forget how to cook in small numbers - but no one has any problem with lots of leftovers!
My favorite things to cook
I'm a pretty skilled baker, but I also like to cook regular dishes of all kinds. Whatever I am doing in the kitchen, I get into my work. I tend to have a large mess to clean up when I'm finished!!!
My cooking triumphs
Some of my inventions that work out - strawberry kiwi tartlets, and oreo buttercream chocolate cake. Though, truthfully, every day on board the ship is a triumph! I have hosted a few theme parties, which were great fun, too.
My cooking tragedies
Baking cake in the middle of the ocean is not always a successful task. Think cookie on one side of the sheet pan, and extra thick cake on the other. You spend much more time scraping the batter out of the oven than you ever would have making the cake.

Tortellini a la Carbonara
I made this recipe for myself and my boyfriend. I used half heavy cream and half light cream, as I had some that I wanted to use up. I also added garlic powder to the sauce, because I didn't have any fresh to saute with the bacon. We loved it, and have been eating it for the last couple days, as it's more than enough for 4 people.

No Sour Cream Beef Stroganoff
This was very good, and easy, despite my picky boyfriend not wanting ground beef. I subbed top round, thinly sliced. I ditched the salt, because I used white cooking wine which is very salty. I did shop specifically for this recipe, so I found myself wanting (and lacking) a little bit more beef stock while it was thickening. I used water, and it seemed okay. Thanks for sharing!

Grandma's Corn Pudding
I scaled the recipe to 20 servings, and cooked in two disposable pans. The cook time took WAY longer than directed. I ended up with the ham and turkey completely carved, tapping my foot, waiting for the custard to set. It looked a little greasy, I think when I make this again I will cut back a bit on the butter. Tasted good, though. 4 stars, only because I felt inconvenienced by the cook time. Will most likely be using this recipe again.
