I have a Ph.D. in pharmacology, which actually comes in pretty handy when I cook (every good scientist has to know how to follow a recipe!). I also enjoy drawing and creating digital art, so cooking definitely appeals to my creative side.
My favorite things to cook
I LOVE to bake, and I have a notorious sweet tooth, so cookies, pies and cakes are at the top of the list. My husband is Chinese, so I'm learning more about cooking in an authentic Chinese style. He's a wonderful cook, and one of my cooking role models. :)
My favorite family cooking traditions
I'm 50% Polish and therefore love traditional Polish foods, including pierogies, golabki, kapusta and placek. Polish Christmas eve dinner (Wigilia) is one tradition that I especially enjoy. There is probably no better cook on the planet than my 88 year old Polish grandmother (Baba)!
My cooking triumphs
I managed to replicate a pineapple chiffon cake that my husband's grandmother used to bake for family birthdays. I'm pretty pround of that one. :)
My cooking tragedies
Early on in my baking career, I made the mistake of adding water that was a just a smidgen too warm to yeast prior to baking rolls. I ended up making rolls that were more akin to baseballs. Even the dog wouldn't touch them.
