About this Cook
I convinced myself at an early age that I was too much of a klutz to cook, but I'm learning that even goof balls like me can cook if they really try and really have fun while they're doing it.
My favorite things to cook
Holiday foods...it's the perfect time to create a masterpiece...desserts are my faves but I love side dishes too. We don't have children yet so it's the best time of year to try things out on lots of people at one time!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom and grandmother are fabulous cooks...I always believed they were just BORN with that gene ya' know...the list of their specialties is a long one, but southern cooking is what they do best. My grandmother was excellent at desserts and my mom is really good at authentic Cajun cooking as well.
My cooking triumphs
Triumphs....gravy would be one of them...I never thought I'd be able to make it! Also, making a cake from scratch that actually tasted good...that was a milestone too!
My cooking tragedies
Oh, there are LOTS of them!!! The first cake I made from scratch was as solid as a rock...it was the nastiest tasting thing ever!!! We all ran to the trash can to spit it out!!

Oven-Fried Pork Chops
Great taste and stayed juicy. I used chicken flavored stuffing and it turned out well.

Spicy Bean Salsa
My hubby loves this stuff! I've carried it to several parties and it gets eaten everytime! I have to be honest...it looks really icky to me but everyone raves about it! It's really easy to make too!

Valerie's Fruit Dip
It's the best fruit dip I've ever had!!! I made it a little lower in carbs by using sugar free fat free vanilla pudding and Cool Whip Free. It was great and I'll make it for years to come!
