I'm from Puerto Rico, and in my country cooking is something that we do in family. In my generation, parents would make sure that their daughters were able to cook, it is an important aspect in life. I always loved to be in the kitchen and help out my parents at dinner time. In my house, my father is the cook. My mother knows how to cook, but dad is the one with that has the best ability. Everything I know today, I learned from him.
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook Rice and beans with Beef steak. It is one of the typical Puerto Rican dishes. Also I love making italian dishes (the basics, because I'm not an expert on it) like spagetti with homemade meatballs, lasagna and pasta alfredo. I also enjoy making desserts like cheesecakes, chocolate cakes, and cookies.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Getting together for Thanksgiving and for Christmas... Everybody in the kitchen helping out, and then a huge dinner. We always end up having leftovers for a week.
My cooking triumphs
I made the perfect cordon bleu chicken one day, and my husband loves it. I do a good garlic bread. Also I make a great flan or custard.
My cooking tragedies
One time I did a recipe called Parskley Potatoes, and it was bad, I put way too much parksley and the potatoes were really sour tasting. And there's always the first time that everybody burns something... like burned chocolate chip cookies and burned bread.
