About this Cook
I'm forty four years old and a romance novelist, with several published titles. I also have published pieces in several Chicken Soup books. In my free time, I play with my four boys, Siberian husky and husband of thirteen years. I love to travel and bring my travels into the kitchen, in menus from around the world. I also am a triathlete, but snail slow and the biggest broad out there.
My favorite things to cook
I love cookbooks. I collect them and read them like novels. Anything I find in a cookbook that I want to make, I jump into. I rarely follow a recipe exactly and think measuing is for baking, only. There is very little I won't tackle, but my favorites are comfort foods that my mom used to cook. Recently, I've begun phasing meat out of my diet. Not for any wonderful reasons, it just does not taste right to me. I have no idea how long this will last, or if it might be permanant. I cook a broad range of foods and find I do not miss it.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My Mom died when I was young (16) but I find myself again, and again turning to the recipes she made. Sunday roasts and Lemon meringue Pies along with herb breads are frequent visitors to my table. I also love fresh herbs and vegetables and cook with them as often as possible.
My cooking triumphs
After numerous tries and failures I now can bake a fabulous pie. My crusts are always flaky! I also make wonderful Stews and Soups, as well as killer Pot Roast.
My cooking tragedies
Too numerous to count. I don't always follow directions, which is great when you cook and not so hot when you bake. The number one failure, that sticks out in my mind, is the Chocolate Cake Batter on the Ceiling incident of 1976. I was banished from my mom's kitchen after that. I'm pretty sure there is still some batter up there, hiding in the nooks and crannies of my dad's house.

Urban Legend Cookies II
It's okay, but not terrific. It's not buttery enough for me and something isn't quite right, although this is a lot nitpicking on my part. I like my chocolate chip cookies a particular way, I'm afraid. Just a note on a couple other reviews. I don't see anywhere in the recipe where the chocolate has to be chopped. Also, someone noted this was the Mrs. Field recipe. Mrs. Field's has stated they do not use oats/oat flour in their chocolate chip cookies and I cannot taste oats in those cookies. They have stated that their recipes use more butter and vanilla than the average home recipe, along with more sugar.

Creamy Au Gratin Potatoes
I made some changes. I always feel weird reviewing a changed recipe, but I don't make many recipes as they are written. So I don't know what to do about that. I minced the onions, added da garlic claove and sweated the onions and garlic in a Tablespoon of butter. I mixed the sweated veggies in with the cheese sauce at the very end of making it. I added some Crushed Corn Flakes over the edges of the top in the last ten minutes of baking and a little paprika for color. This is delicious and my family loved it.

Banana Banana Bread
Four stars as is, five after I played. Added one teaspoon good cinnamon (I used Chinese Cassia because I like the strong note), a pinch of powdered ginger and a teaspoon of vanilla. It's delicious. It is falling apart when I cut it, but it's just out of the oven. It's smooth and mellow with tons of banana taste. The kids are blowing it to cool it down, so they can eat it faster as I type. Dense and wonderful. I'm going to try it with 1/4 whole wheat flour next time. Salted butter worked best. Unsalted and I would add most salt.
