I really enjoy cooking, but since my husband and I share the cooking duties I only get to cook every second day. I guess I shouldn't be complaining about that, though!
My favorite things to cook
For dinner: pasta, curries, stir fries, Mexican, soups, big salads.
I grew up vegetarian and although I now eat meat sometimes I still cook a lot of vegetarian dishes.
For breakfast: French toast.
For fun: muffins and cakes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother is a fantastic cook - eating at her place is always like eating at a really good restaurant. So I have too many good childhood food memories to list!
One family tradition I particularly like is the plum pudding my mother makes every Christmas. It's her grandmother's recipe.
My cooking triumphs
Some of my favourite dishes to make for guests are spaghetti with zucchini, lemon & chilli, minestrone soup and sweet potato & pear soup. My sticky gingerbread muffins have been a hit at office morning teas.
My cooking tragedies
Burning peanuts when I tried to roast them for a roast peanut soup. Mistaking salt for sugar in a recipe (yuck!).
A packet chocolate cake I made recently stuck to the bottom of the pan. When I tried to get it out, it came out in pieces. It didn't taste very good, either. I think I should stick to making cakes from scratch!
