My favorite family cooking traditions
My husband, son, daughter-in-law and I love cooking together. At Christmas time, we have the traditional Polish dinner on Christmas Eve. On Christmas Day we graze on appetizers all day and just relax.
My cooking tragedies
Many years ago when my son was about 2 years old (he is now 27) it was spring time. I was making the Spring Lamb Stew that my husband absolutely loves. I had a horrible head cold and my baby was also sick. The stew was pretty much done. I was thickening it using cornstarch and water - no matter what I did, it would not thicken. I suddenly realized I was using sugar and water!! Of course it wouldn't thicken!! I guess I was delirous with fever. Needless to say, I had to throw the whole thing out. We still laugh about this.

Chocolate Cookie Buttercream Frosting
Thank you, Nancy, for sharing this great frosting! What's great is that it's good just as written but is forgiving to the point that you can make pretty much any adjustments according to your liking and/or needs -- and it works.

Grilled Cheese Sandwich
I gave this classic recipe five stars and would like to give Sal six stars for submitting it. Not all of the members of Allrecipes are experienced cooks and I'm sure many are just starting to learn. Thank you, Sal!!

Golden Pork Chops
The only reason I did not give this recipe 5 stars is because I altered it a bit. Like others, I sauteed the mushrooms and onion with a bit of garlic in olive oil and butter, adding the garlic at the end so it would not burn. I then added this to the soup mixture with a bit of milk. I browned the chops in the same skillet, put them in a casserole, spooned the soup mixture on top and followed the recipe from there. This is absolutely delicious. Flavorful and so tender. My husband loves this and is very picky about his pork chops because so many times they come out dry. Not a problem with this winner! Thanks for sharing!
