I am in college studying sociology, but I usually skip class so I can come home and cook. I'm beginning to consider Culinary School--at least I would end up attending class :)
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook for other people; anything that makes people happy. I love to stretch others' boundaries as well as my own. Recently, I've been very interested in Moroccan and Iranian food. Lemon is my absolute favorite flavor and I love sauces. I also lust for any excuse to use capers.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I loved having dinner "bars" with my family: taco & burrito bar, lasagna bar, pasta bar, salad bar, crepe bar, hamburger bar, pizza bar, sandwich bar, baked potato bar, etc. All of the components and toppings would be spread throughout the kitchen and we would build our own based on what we preferred, then we'd sit down and eat together. My favorite was the lasagna bar, because we would each get individual mini bread loaf pans to build our lasagna--I had my own meticulous layering techniques as an 8 year old--and then we would bake them together.
My cooking triumphs
Any time I can make a great dish without creating a giant mess is a triumph. I hate when it takes longer to clean up than to cook!
My cooking tragedies
When I was about 11, I made brownies for Easter. Since we were dying eggs that day also, I accidently used vinegar instead of vegetable oil in the batter. I always double-check labels now, and I haven't made a single mistake since.
