About this Cook
I am a teacher, an artist, and a Harry Potter enthusiast. I don't do a whole lot of cooking, but when I do, I go all out!
My favorite things to cook
I love making finger foods and gourmet sauces. Breakfast is another favorite as well as rich delicious desserts.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom was always cooking. She catered lunches for my teachers in high school, cooked with my sister and me to make christmas presents, held fancy parties for us with fantastic food. My favorite memory though, was watching her teach young military wives how to make wonderful meals on a small budget when I was very young.
My cooking triumphs
I made a delightful double chocolate cheesecake for my best friend's birthday featuring the Hogwart's crest and Golden Snitches on top (All made out of chocolates and royal icing). It endeared her children to me immesurably and delighted her as a fellow Harry Potter nut!
My cooking tragedies
After just moving from a city that is barely above sea level to 4000 ft above, I tried to make a croquembouche for a Christmas Eve party. Although I was always successful at making cream puffs when I lived in Florida, they just would not turn out right here and I actually have saved the two batches I made as dog treats for when my sister brings her pup over to visit.

Caramel Frosting V
I made this for caramel apple cupcakes. When whipping it in the mixer, I added a cup of powdered sugar and several splashes of cream to make it frosting like. I also added about 1/4 tsp of salt to the sugar and cream while it was cooking. The flavor was pretty good, but doesn't taste like commercial caramels.

Thick Cut-Outs
The cookies are fantastic. Taste great and nice and stable for decorating. The frosting however didn't really do it for me. It was too clear for my taste and has an oily sheen that really isn't all that appealing. Next time I go with royal icing. addendum- I sent these cookies, decorated with the frosting included in the recipe, around the country. I spent a couple hours baking and decorating them only to find out, when sent pictures by the recipients of the gifts they received, that the white frosting dried clear and the colored frosting simply sunk into the red background so all of my decorating was wasted. I will never use this frosting again and suggest that you don't either if you will be doing anything other than just glazing a cookie.

Amazing Cocktail Sauce
Really very good. I added a lot more lemon than it asked for to mask the ketchup flavor but I also used less chili garlic sauce as well because the type I had was VERY hot. It was delicious!
