About this Cook
My husband and I are retired and spend a lot of time traveling. We pack spices and cooking gear and stop at local seafood and vegetable markets along our routes. We cook at roadside parks and enjoy really good healthy local food along the way.
My favorite things to cook
Pretty much anything although we don't do a lot of dessert.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving dinner with the family. It is the only family holiday that requires nothing more good food and a family to enjoy it with. My husband and I have been hosting our family Thanksgiving for the last 10 years at our cabin in Grayling. Everyone goes over the river and through the woods for dinner.
My cooking triumphs
A wild game dinner - complete with 3 courses for 30 people. All of the fish, game and even the berries for dessert were caught, processed and prepared by my husband and myself.
My cooking tragedies
My first attempt at cooking fish. I didn't know the difference between pollock and perch and the end result was a disaster.

Beef, Bean and Barley Stew
It's a good recipe - especially when you are down to a couple of carrots and potatoes in the frige. I did add a lot more herbs than it called for. I left out the caraway seeds and used Italian sausage instead of beef which gave it more of a Mediterranean taste.

Baked Parmesan-Crusted Chicken
This was easy to make. It tastes great and is extremely moist. I followed the recipe but added some rosemary. My two year old grandson - who's not overly fond of meat couldn't get enough.

Fresh Blueberry Pie II
It was a good recipe. I used wild blueberries which have quite a lot more juice that the domestic ones. I needed to add some cornstarch to thicken it properly. I also made up the filling and cooled it then put it into mini fillo shells with a whipped cream topping. It makes the filling go father and is nice for when you only have a small amount of wild berries and a lot of people who want a taste. Those wild blueberries are a lot of work to pick!
