Learned how to cook from mom. Eldest of three boys, both parents worked and had to learn to cook or else eat aluminum tray Swanson TV dinners every night.... My poor younger brothers learned the hard way to tell me what was good and what wasn't and why and most importantly when to tell me....
My favorite things to cook
Baby back ribs on the ol' green egg, steaks and yellow yukon potatoes on my weber, Mom's Rouladen, potato pancakes with chives, apple sauce and sour cream, sunday gravy, juicy burgers with grilled onions, penny ala vodka, etc....
My favorite family cooking traditions
Mom's rouladen, potato pancakes, German potatoe salad.
My cooking tragedies
Pulled Pork caused the hair on everyone's neck to stand at attention. After smoking in hickory wood chips for 12 hours..... 6 pounds of pork butt was tender and pulled apart easily using two forks... then I blew it.... and didn't follow my intuition and used a recipe from a bbq website.... which won't be named....it had way too much red, white, and black pepper that ruined this wonderful piece of meat. The two cups of apple vinegar also didn't help the sauce. Just too much work to have it destroyed. From now on the sauce will be dipping on the side only. I learned my lesson.
