I am a retired RN and loveretirement. Like to entertain and play with Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. Enjoy lunch with female friends, a movie and shopping. I enjoy cooking wonderful food for my husband of 57 years - Yes, the same man.
My favorite things to cook
A full oven of food is fun to do. Roast, ovenfried chicken, potatoes, veggies, baked spaghetti. I enjoy cooking realy good Mexican food but it must be authentic. Tex-Mex just doesn't do it. Italian dishes are a real favorite. Love to bake bread homemade rolls especially.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Fried chicken (see Deep South Fried Chicken) has become our Christmas meat. Making Tamali's from scratch. My dear neighbor taught me how and I taught her how to properly fry a chicken and make cornbread. She insisted on putting "stuff" (Peppers, onion, whole kernel corn)in it but it was good.
My cooking triumphs
1.My friends and I served 85 women of the church district at a luncheon and that was 20 years ago. It still hasn't been topped! Brag, brag, brag. 2. My son surprised us returning from the military and low and behold, the table was set, meal was cooked and all I had to do was pull up a 3rd chair.
My cooking tragedies
New stove, new minister, and the oven stayed on 300*1 hour instead of the 4 it took to cook it. Roast never cooked. House was spotless, table set, kids all clean, husband home on time and NO FOOD! We had so little money as a young couple, but took them out to dinner-ate the darn roast a week.
