My budget seems to be getting tighter and tighter, but my family’s appetite gets bigger and bigger (two growing boys and a hubby that bikes 30 miles a day, and a college student).  Plus there never seems to be enough hours in the day to get everything I need done (work, kids activites),… MORE

About this Cook
Born in Mexico...raised a California girl, I'm always trying to find my roots with my cooking. I have a big family with my mom as matriarch and master cook. So I have some big shoes to fill. In the meantime, I work full time and am raising 3 kids (a husband) and the ugliest dog in the world.
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking food that my mom always made when we were younger. She doesn't really have any recipes, so it's a challenge. Every time she cooks, it's a unique experience since variations on ingredients are never the same. I also love Mexican food El Paso style. I would like to dabble more in Italian and Filipino dishes. My all time fav is BBQ and down home Southern comfort food.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I come from a Mexican Family. Family gatherings center around the kitchen and dinning areas. I love having family around the kitchen cooking, sitting around the dinner table talking, laughing, joking, drinking and eating.
My cooking triumphs
Baking a homemade pie from scratch. And anytime I can get a thumbs up from my family is a triumph.
My cooking tragedies
Trying to master homemade flour tortillas. I know I'll never get them like my mom's, but I'll die trying. Anytime my husband pours ketchup over a dish that I have taken time to prepare and present is a Shakespearean tragedy of the worst kind.

Caramel Popcorn
My son needed caramel popcorn for school tomorrow, so I'm trying this recipe for the first time. I went with all of reviewer "Patracina's" recommendations and it was no fail. I should have looked at more tips, but I'm doing this last minute. I put my popcorn in a big plastic bag and drizzled a little caramel at a time till i think i coated pretty good and it was good like that. I'm baking in the oven and i'm sure it will be better when it cools. Thanks for the recipe!

Marinade for Chicken
We really enjoyed this marinade. I really loved how it smelled and the skin had a nice shine to it. The chicken had a nice flavor and though we had BBQ sauce on hand, we really didn't use much of it. This marinade stood nicely on its own. Can't wait to have it for lunch today. Thanks JILLYPOOH
