About this Cook
I'm a transplanted midwesterner who's learning to appreciate the simple and regional foods of the South. I've only been been married for about 3 and a half years, but I've been cooking since I was five so I have a lot of experience under my belt. I'm very good with cooking on a budget.
My favorite things to cook
As a wife, student, and working member of society I thrive on quick, easy, and cheap recipes. I love to cook asian recipes and regional southern dishes. Right now my favorite recipe is Easy Tortilla Soup found on this site.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every Christmas, my mom, all my siblings, and I take a Saturday and bake cookies and fudge til we drop. It's a big deal to us, and it just isn't Christmas until we've done that. Over time, it's become less about the cookies made and more about the time together.
My cooking triumphs
I consider it a great honor that my husband has loved everything I've tried cooking. He says he can't remember a single dish that he didn't like!
My cooking tragedies
When I was much younger, I was baking a custard pie and accidently dropped it in the oven! The custard goo went absolutely everywhere - sprayed throughout the oven, came out of the oven, and over the nearby cabinets. The burnt smell stayed for atleast a month. Everytime we turned on the oven the smell reminded me of that horrible moment.

Kidney Bean Coleslaw
I served this with grilled cheese sandwiches to make a simple and very casual weeknight dinner. I could have eaten just this coleslaw by itself and been content! The beans make this a nicely filling side dish. Here are the little variations that I made to this recipe: I used miracle whip light instead of mayo (saves calories & fat!). I only used 1/3 cup of onions since I’m the only one in my family that likes onions. I used a small amount of dried parsley (maybe 1/2 tsp?) instead of fresh since that’s all I had on hand. I used regular bacon instead of “real bacon bits” – again, that’s just what I had on hand. I also added one packet of Splenda (which is equivalent to 2 tsp. of sugar), just because I couldn’t help myself. But these were all minor changes and the essence of the dish is still the same. I will definitely make this again, but next time using more Splenda. As is, the recipe makes a "savory" coleslaw. I'm used to a sweeter, tangy-er coleslaw. It's just a personal preference.

Morning Glory Muffins I
This muffin recipe is amazing! Very, very good. The only changes I made were to NOT use raisins (yuck!) and I used one egg instead of the two whites. These were very moist, easy to make, and all out awesome.

Oatmeal Butterscotch Cookies
This was a nice, classic cookie. I like my cookies to be soft and chewy so I took the advice of another review and cooked at 350 for about 9 minutes. Those were perfect for me. My husband likes crunchy cookies, so his were cooked for about 12-13 minutes. He's thrilled - I'm thrilled. Everyone's happy!
