About this Cook
I teach music at a university, and I am a typical singer in that I love good food, especially of the rich variety. Besides cooking for myself and my husband, I like to make homebaked treats and bring them to the office for colleagues and students when they have been really good!
My favorite things to cook
I could eat Mexican food every day, being from Texas. My husband is from Iowa and could eat pork chops and corn every day, meat-and-potatoes type stuff, so I make a lot of both those types of food. I also love making homemade pizza using my grandma's dough recipe, and topping it with buffalo chicken, bleu cheese and green onion. Actually, I love making all kinds of yeast rolls - so delicious. One of my favorite foods is osso bucco, and I would like to try making that.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My grandma would bake at least 15 different kinds of Christmas cookies and treats every year, each one delicious, especially her lemon spritz and her almond fudge. We looked forward to them every year. My mom has continued the cookie tradition. I bake a few types of cookies, and I also make homemade chocolate truffles, toffee, peanut butter fudge, and other candies. Now everyone in the family has even more to look forward to at Christmas!
My cooking triumphs
I was able to recreate the broccoli-rice casserole from Threadgills in Austin. I figured out it contains wild rice and water chestnuts, among other things - then they started selling it frozen in the stores, and I checked the recipe on the package and I was right!
My cooking tragedies
I have ruined so many made-from-scratch cakes. The pound cakes were ton cakes instead. I finally came to understand that you have to sift the flour, and that really helped.

Sweet Snack Mix
SO good. I tried it with white almond bark and chocolate almond bark, and both are excellent. For the nuts I use one cup of honey roasted peanuts and one cup of cashews.

Peanut Blossoms II
Don't make my mistake and decide to use the cherry cordial Hershey's kisses - they melt and make a big mess! I also lowered the temp to 350, because my chocolate was getting a little crispy on top.

Best Peanut Butter Cookies Ever
I am a big fan of Peanutbutteriest Cookies from this website, but I found this recipe to make for a friend who can't eat gluten, and I was shocked at how good they are! My husband liked them too, and he doesn't normally like PB cookies.
