Spring Cleaning

I have a week off of work, so I decided to start my spring cleaning today. I figured I'd get the worst room out of the way first, which would be the kitchen. I organized all my cupboards and drawers, which was quite the task. My worst cupboard is the spice cupboard. It is always a disaster. When one bottle tips over, they all tip over. Ugh!! I'm kind of an organizational freak, so I like to keep my spices and seasonings in alphabetical order so that I know where to locate them. But, at the same time, I also like things to be appealing to the eye, which doesn't work out so well when the bottles come in different sizes/shapes. I know, I'm weird!! Anyway, once I got all the drawers and cupboards in order, I cleaned the oven, refrigerator, microwave and stovetop. I despise cleaning my stovetop! We have a gas stove and it is so hard to get the burnt on crud off the grill (I'm not sure if that's the correct term, but you know what I mean). I even used oven cleaner and it still took a lot of effort. Next I wiped down all the cupboards, countertops, baseboards and scrubbed the sinks. I dusted, sweeped and mopped the floor, soaked the trash can, and washed all the rugs and curtains. It took me almost 6 hours!!! I can only hope that the cleanliness lasts for a while!

I cooked supper (chicken pot pies) afterward and tried really, really hard not to make a mess. That was quite a feat for me because usually when I cook it looks like a tornado went through the kitchen! As much as I love to cook, sometimes I dread it because I know I'm going to have to clean up afterward. Lucky for me, I have a husband who pitches in most of the time. Even so, sometimes I'm turned off from certain recipes that require a lot of prep just because I don't want to clean up the mess afterward. I wish I had my own personal assistant to follow behind me and do all that clean-up work. Wouldn't that be great? I think it would be a dream come true!

Totally agree with you on the needed assistant! But now you can sit back and enjoy the "pristine" kitchen...albiet for a short while! ;)

Hey! I just wanted to give you a tip about the glass stove top. I have one at my house, and my grandmother has one at her house (I learned this tip from her!)... What I do is wipe the stove down with warm soapy water, and then pour some HOT water on the stove top. Just enough to cover it, and also not too much that it spills over the sides. Let it soak for a looong time. Then if you have it (our stove came with the cleaner and this neat little scraper) take the scraper and get the crud off. Wipe all the excess water, then take a sponge and the cleaner to it! Basically its the scraper that gets the gunk off, but it really helps to soak it first. In case you don't have one of the scrapers, I will find one and post the link for you. It still is a job, but it helps so that you aren't scrubbing so hard you're arm is about to fall off!

About Me
I live in southern Minnesota and work as a registered nurse at our local hospital. I'm married and have a dog. I love cooking, baking, shopping, going fishing with my husband, playing games, watching TV, reading, and going to our family's cabin up north on the lake.
My favorite things to cook
Pasta, breads, appetizers/dips, breakfast, crockpot meals, mexican food, desserts
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom never really cooked much when I was growing up. If she did it was something out of a box or some sort of frozen dinner. My grandma on the other hand always made everything from scratch, and I loved eating at her house. I guess that's why I try to make homemade food as much as possible. It just tastes so much better.
