Red and Sweet Potato Salad

This potato salad was really, really pretty. That said, the flavor was just...another potato salad. If I want to make a salad, I may make this again just based on beauty, but I'll definitely be thinking about other things to add to it, to add a little punch to the flavor. Incidentally, I didn't have any celery, so I used grilled corn for crunch, and that could've made some difference. Other than that, I followed the directions to a T.

This was really good! A little bland as stated, but I did add the extras suggested by others, and thicken the juices into gravy at the end. Served with Spaetzle - yummy!

Velvety Pumpkin Soup With Blue Cheese and Bacon

This is such a great twist on Pumpkin soup! So many of them are too sweet, but the smokiness in this one is a real treat. Plus, anything with bacon AND molasses is bound to be a winner! :D

Tarragon-Turkey Soup

To my family, this soup seemed a little weak and thin. It needed more flavor, and I had to add orzo just so everyone felt like they were getting a real meal. The tarragon added an interesting flavor though!

Pecan Jam

This was an odd recipe - I was sooo excited to try it, but disappointed by the results. I wasn't sure what the final consistancy was supposed to be. The picture looks transluscent, but mine was very fudge like, tan & opaque. Lastly, the flavor had an odd sourness too it - perhaps it was the vinegar, or the combination of vinegar & ginger? Anyway, its a neat idea... but I think I'll try some different ingredients next time.

Delicious Apple Sauce

This recipe calls for FAR too much cinnamon. When eating the sauce you can actually feel the light grit from the cinnamon in the sauce. My kids like it well enough, but did ask if it was apple butter before tasting it.

Ukrainian Red Borscht Soup

This was a good recipe, but with one VERY large omission! This will taste absolutely nothing like Ukrainian borscht without the addition of large amounts of fresh dill weed. The dill is the most stand out taste in borscht (as made in UA.)

Pork Chops with Fresh Tomato, Onion, Garlic, and Feta

This was excellent. My husband was overjoyed, and I was glad to eat "adult food" again! That said, my kids didn't like it too much, but that isn't surprising. I think next time will add some bell pepper and capers to the mix.

Apple Raisin Bread

This is such an excellent recipe. MY whole family loves it, and because it makes 3 loaves, I can share it with friends as well! I love that this doesn't call for cinnamon or any of the traditional spices that we put with apples. It gives this bread a fresh light flavor.

Charleston Breakfast Casserole

Authentic Potato Pancakes

The taste was ok, a little bland. However, the texture was really terrible, maybe how I would imagine fried playdough. In fairness, I have never had potato pancakes before, so perhaps this is the normal texture? Either way, it didn't go over too well with the fam.

Tortilla Sundae With Minted Mango Salsa

Refreshing and light just in time for summer. I wasn't sure about the texture of the salsa at first- its kind of slimy? But, the taste is great, and I loved the idea of the tortilla strips. We used the leftover strips with chocolate ice cream for a nice taste.

Turkey Cutlets With Apple Chutney

This was really good. It reminded me of a pork recipe, and I think you could use the chutney over pork chops with excellent results. There was not enough vinegar to really be noticeable, and I used molasses as a replacement for the brown sugar since I was out. The one thing I learned was to never again use store-formed turkey cutlets, but to make them myself. My cutlets were tough... the first time I've ever had tough turkey! Anyway, great recipe for the coming Autumn months.

Greek Souzoukaklia

My husband and I both enjoyed the different flavor of this meat very much. My children weren't thrilled. The only thing my husband and I were trying to figure out was a good way to serve this. It actually might be good in a pita with some sort of sauce, but it needs something tangy, since the meat is very mild. Anyway, we'll be making this again, it was fun to find a new use for ground beef.

What an excellent recipe; thank you for sharing. My husband has declared this his new favorite. The only ommission I made was the red pepper flakes, since I was also feeding 2 young children. The prep time wasn't bad for the results. We'll definitely make this again.

Frog Eye Salad
