About this Cook
Lived in the same town all of my life. Married, mother of two, grandmother of five. Love to experiment with food. My husband will always taste-test whatever I cook. Then we go from there whether I make it again.
My favorite things to cook
Love to cook anything. If it has pasta in it, that's even better. Was raised on Southern cooking. The only thing, most southern veggies are cooked to death. I like to have color and a little bite to my veggies. Love steak, but haven't mastered the perfect one yet.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I know it's not healthy, but still like that fatback in beans. Also we do the blackeyed peas, hog jowl and greens for New Years. Wouldn't be New Year's without it.
My cooking triumphs
I have really gotten into baking the last couple of years. I have not been afraid to experiment with desserts that are a little more advanced. So far everything I've tried has turned out great!
My cooking tragedies
My husband and I were having Christmas dinner with his folks. It was our first Christmas together 30 years ago. I had a recipe for a brown-bag apple pie. It was literally put into a brown grocery bag and cooked in the oven. My sister had given me the recipe. I had used store bought pie crusts. I had taken the wax paper off of one of the crusts, but had forgotten to take the other one off. I saw my sister-in-law picking something out of the pie. It was the wax paper! She discovered it while cutting the second pie. All of it was still eaten, so I guess it was still a success!

North Carolina Barbeque Sauce
This is o.k. It's like what you would find more in Western NC. We use a tomato based sauce.
