I am a SAHM of five children. Yep five!!! They range from 10yrs old to 6 mos. old. I love to cook and to bake because I stay home and work a part time job and we have a tight budget. So, I take that budget and stretch it to the max and beyond with cooking from scratch or the use of double coupons at my local grocery store. Actually I like the challenge believe it or not. I have been cooking now for about eight years but got serious propably four years ago. I worked at a fruit farm as a teenager in the bakery and the retail area too. So I learned alot about produce, fruit and baking that I use today. My kids say I am the best cook in the neighborhood and even say in the town too. That makes me very proud. One day I hope to come up with my own recipe and enter it into a contest and win. We'll see.
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook foods that my family likes to eat. So really anything. I love to be challenged and try something new. But if I had to choose it would be dinner as to what I like to cook. But honestly it is always changing with me.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Baking cookies around the holidays. My Mom use to let me help her with the making of the dough and she would let me bake them most of the time. She would allow me to go through her cookbooks and pick out the recipes that I wanted to try. To this day I love cookie baking around the holidays with my children!!!
My cooking triumphs
I have to say making yeast rolls in the bread machine. I reviewed the recipe that I use on this site. To this day I bake those rolls almost twice a week. I never had luck with yeast breads. So that is why that is a triumph to me. I hope to one day make an awesome biscuit. I just can't seem to make a biscuit with shortening or yeast of any kind.
My cooking tragedies
My worse tragedy had to be my first Thanksgiving that my husband's family was over. I was making homemade pumpkin pies. Cooked my own squash and was making my own pie crust. Well by accident I used salt in place of the sugar measurement in the pie crusts. And lets just say you could tell!!! :0)
