I'm a 29 yr. old stay-at-home wife and mommy. I've only been cooking "on my own" since my first daughter was born in 2001. I learned to cook at the elbows of my own mom and my grandmothers. Now I love having my little girls learning at my elbow! My hubby is Mexican-American and I'm from the midwest, so I'm trying to fuze our likes into something we both enjoy.
My favorite things to cook
I'm not crazy about frying anything, especially deep frying. Other than that, I love cooking everything...as long as I have room to experiment! We certainly love trying new things!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Coming from the midwest, most things are fried, basted in thick sauces, fried, deep fried, cooked in bacon or bacon grease, or fried! I try to be a little more health conscious. However, there is no substitute for bacon or butter! One of my grandmothers made awesome baked goods, the other had all the ultimate comfort foods down pat. My mom learned from both of them, and I have tried to carry out their traditions...only a little healthier.
My cooking triumphs
I finally mastered flour tortillas like my hubbies Abuela used to make!
My cooking tragedies
I was helping my neice make sopapillas. When she was finished, some of the flour had burned in the oil and the house was a stinky, smokey mess, so I decided to take it outside to dump it right away. Almost made it, but not quite. Much of it spilled over onto my hand and I added a nice new scar to my "oopsies." OUCH!!!
