This is a good recipe that I will make again and perfect. I only gave it 4 stars because I think that it alone is not 5 star...it's good with some modifications. Last night I followed the recommendations of others and used worsteshire sauce and brown gravy mix. I also upped the ketchup to 2 T. My own personal modifications were, when I made the mashed potatoes, I used 5 large russets...and when I mashed them, I added 1/2 cup milk and 1/4 cup butter. I did not add the onions, but did add the cheese. They turned out GREAT. With the carrots, I did boil them for the time suggested, but I did not mash them. I will make this again...and my picky husband actually liked this. He hates casseroles of all kinds. Next time I make it though, I will NOT add the worsteshire sauce and maybe not even the ketchup. I did NOT like the sweet flavor that those two ingredients gave the beef. Next time, for the beef, I will just sautee garlic and onions in butter, like before, then when the beef is browned, add the flour...but will try only using the brown gravy mix with water...I also had to add more water to the gravy mix, so next time I will go with 1.5 cups and increase it to 2 if needed. This is a good recipe with the modifications made.
