I've been married 6 years now and am on a mission to expose my husband to new things. Two cats, no kids(yet!) and a pile of 30ish friends who always seem to end up at our house.
My favorite things to cook
When I started cooking, it was being frugal and keeping the budget. Now I'm trying to help us eat healthier. I love trying new recipes out on my husband, and cooking good home-cooked meals for my friends far from their families.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I love my family's holiday meals. The women of all generations in the kitchen, laughing, chopping, stirring and tasting. The next best thing is when my husband chops the veggies and flips the stir-fry for me when we cook together.
My cooking triumphs
I made a French pork roast out of Anthony Bourdain's Les Halles Cookbook. A visiting friend made real French Onion soup, and we were generally proud of ourselves for pulling off an excellent gourmet meal.
My cooking tragedies
I can't make potato salad. My mother-in-law clucks her tongue at me, and everyone asks what it is that I do wrong, and I just can't put my finger on it. After 5 years of my husband eating one serving to not offend me, we just decided it was better if I didn't make it anymore. We found a local deli that's got a great variety, and we just buy it when we want it.
