About this Cook
I'm in school full-time and working full-time so I don't get to play in the kitchen nearly as much as I would like. When I do have a chance to cook, I love to experiment with different recipes using quality ingredients.
My favorite things to cook
I'm a desert nut. There is nothing like a home filled with the aroma of freshly baked goodies. I am learning to cook healthier items and am experimenting with techniques and ingredients that are better for us.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving back home in Hawaii--our Thanksgiving spread was as diverse as the many cultures making up the melting pot that is Hawaii. Growing up Mom and I would get up very early and spend all morning chopping, stuffing, tasting, and talking. Since I now live in Alabama (and she is still back home in Hawaii), unfortunately we aren't able to get together nearly enough. =(
My cooking triumphs
Everytime I come back from a potluck with an empty platter.
My cooking tragedies
I'm embarrased to admit this but I once tried to boil an egg in the microwave. As soon as I took it out of the water it exploded EVERYWHERE and the smell was putrid. It took me over an hour to clean it up.

Chocolate Chip Shortbread Cookie Logs
Delicious! I made the logs. I chopped up one cup of Ghirardelli milk chocolate chips for use in the dough and melted down another cup to dip the cookies in. I dipped it in the chocolate long ways and then dipped the front in the chopped walnuts. Not only do they taste amazing, they are gorgeous too. Big hit with everyone. Definitely a keeper.

Frozen Pineapple 'Ice Cream' Sandwich
These were tasty. I ended up using all 3 packs of graham crackers in the box so I made a total of 24 sandwiches. Unfortunately they were higher in calories than I thought they would be even using light Cool Whip and reduced fat graham crackers. So everyone else gets to eat them but me.

Simple Turkey Chili
Had some ground chicken to use up so decided to try this recipe. Instead of canned tomatoes I used frozen tomatoes that my mother-in-law put up this summer from the garden. Also used 2 cans of kidney beans, did not mash either. Used all of the spices listed, but in much greater quantities. Very tasty!
