I have been married for 30 years and have 5 wonderful children. 3 in college and 2 college grads married and out on their own.
I grew up with a mom and dad that both cooked and made lots of international cuisine. My mom was featured in the Denver Post Food section twice when I was a kid. Once for her Chinese recipes and once for her Italian recipes. It's fun to look back on the clippings with the photos and recipes from when I was little.
I love teaching people to cook. in addition to teaching my kids I regularly teach small groups of friends or friend of my kids how to cook.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake. Cookies, cakes, pies, doesn't matter to me as long as I get to bake it. I enjoy cooking international dishes. Indian food is a favorite at our house as is Italian.
My favorite family cooking traditions
One of my favorite traditions is that the day after Thanksgiving, the women in the family get together and make Danish Peppernuts. We have had 4 generations and it has gone on as long as we have been in America. Before that they made them on the 1st day of December. We are also a family that eats dinner together almost every night. There are so many kids that are at my house and stay for dinner who say that they never eat dinner as a family and that their parents do not cook ever. That to me is so very sad so we have made it a priority to all be home for dinner. It has not always easy with 2 high school kids and many schedules, but we make it happen. I love cooking with my kids and am happy to say that they all can put together some great meals.
My cooking triumphs
I make a mean dark dense chocolate cake with chocolate whipped cream icing and Heath bar bits in it. It is what all of my kids want for their birthday cakes every year.
My cooking tragedies
Only one- I made a meatloaf a few years ago that was so bad that even the dog wouldn't eat it. I had tried a new recipe for meatloaf and it was terrible! Other than a few burned batches of cookies from forgetting to set a timer and getting busy with something else I really have not had too many disasters.
